Imagine you're toolin' down the highways
and by-ways, going to your favorite burger joint for a bite to eat. You're just about to stop … and you hear it, that annoying tick-tick-tick of a blown header gasket ! In days-gone-by, header and collector gaskets were made of asbestos fibers, however, recent federal laws prohibit the use of these fibers. This left us with replacement gaskets being made from a paper composite material, which has a tendency to get brittle with the constant temperature cycling of an exhaust system. Xtreme Heat Coatings Street Rod Headers has the solution to keep you rolling, with their unique embossed, solid copper exhaust gaskets. Yes, Copper! One of natures softest metals. When combined with our embossed O-ring design, the copper will compress and conform to the header and the head surfaces, giving you the best heat resistant leak-free seal possible. Copper exhaust gaskets are available for most Chey, Ford and Chrysler Engines, as well as 2 1/2", 3" and 3 1/2" triangle 3-bolt collector gaskets.

Lets Install Some Copper Gaskets….

Here's everything you'll need to get the job done: Headers, wrench, stainless bolts, and hi-temp silicone sealer

We Start by
scraping all of the old gasket material, sealer and corrosion from the mounting
surfaces, ensuring they are both clean and flat.

Here, We put a small
bead of silicone sealer on both sides of the gasket (this is a little Insurance
because this job is only fun once !) Allow it to "skin" over for 15 to 20 minutes
before we install the gaskets.

Install
the two outer header bolts so that the header can be pulled out 1/2" to 3/4"
away from the head. We used reduced head bolts, because their 5/16" head lets you
get into the tightest of spots and the polished stainless finish compliments the
appearance of our coated headers.
By installing only the two outer bolts -
leaving the header pulled away from the head, the gasket will easily slip between and
catch on these two hooks. Install the remaining bolts and torque to 10-12 ft lbs using
a box end wrench.

shows our unique embossed sealing ring. Note, for proper installation
and sealing, the ring (or bump) on the gasket must face out - toward the header

Okay… Fire
it Up, let run 15-20 minutes, re-torque the bolts… and you're off for a burger
!
